Day-Night blinds — a top product

Day-Night blinds (also known as zebra blinds) consist of two layers of fabric with alternating sheer and dense stripes. The blind moves like an ordinary roller blind, but when the dense stripes line up the room falls into shade, and when they part, soft light passes through the sheer sections and you can see outside. One movement takes you from complete privacy to an open view.

This is a top product and one of the most ordered types of blind: equally at home in the living room, bedroom, nursery and office. The systems are the same as in our roller blinds: the compact Midi 25/28 mm for windows and casements, the reinforced RT 32, RT 40 and RT 45 mm for wide and tall openings, plus the premium series Absolute S / M — six Duolight systems in all, each with its own data sheet. Control is by chain or by motors from Somfy and OK with a remote and smartphone control.

How does a Day-Night blind differ from an ordinary roller blind?

A roller blind has a single layer of fabric, so you raise it to look outside. A zebra blind has a double fabric: by shifting the sheer and dense stripes you move smoothly from an open view to full shade without raising the blind at all. The systems are the same as for roller blinds — only the fabric changes.

Do Day-Night blinds give complete darkness?

With the dense stripes lined up the room darkens noticeably, but some light still comes in around the edges of a free-hanging blind. For bedrooms there are dense fabrics, including ones with blackout stripes (Neroli BO, Nuit DO), while the best result comes from a Day-Night cassette blind with side guides.

What are the maximum dimensions?

Per the Duolight data sheets — up to 280 × 300 cm in a single blind (RT 45, Absolute M): up to 6 m² with a chain and, with a motor, up to 9 m². The recommended width is up to 220 cm: beyond that the stripes may align unevenly, so we split large openings into several blinds (Multi-Link — 2–3 blinds on a single tube).

Can it be fitted without drilling?

Yes: the compact Midi 25/28 mm fits straight onto the casement of a PVC window — the window still tilts freely and the sill stays usable. Our fitter will choose the no-drill bracket at the survey: the right one depends on the glazing bead, the handle and the depth of the casement.
