SP and SP-E roller shutters — concealed under plaster, PHI certificate

Concealed · passive house

Invisible roller shutters for a new build: the box is fitted into the lintel zone and plastered flush with the facade. Outside there is only the curtain in its guide rails, and the thermal envelope of the house is left untouched.

Description

SP / SP-E in detail

How the box disappears into the facade

The secret of SP is that the front face of the box is designed as a base for the finishing layer: plaster, insulation or cladding. Once finished, the box becomes indistinguishable from the plane of the wall and the only giveaways are the guide rails and the curtain. The construction interferes with neither the window, nor the door, nor the lintel — the thermal balance of the building stays exactly as the designer intended.

The only system in this section with a passive house certificate

SP boxes up to 165 mm are certified by the Passive House Institute (PHI, Darmstadt) for use in energy-efficient buildings — provided the installation follows the institute's requirements and the windows are in the class Uw ≤ 0.80 W/(m²K) with glazing units Ug ≤ 0,70. If you are building a low-energy house, this is a standard, documented solution rather than a piece of improvisation.

Plan it at the design stage

The system was created first and foremost for new builds; it can be used in an existing house too, but the lintel zone will have to be rebuilt. Inspection covers and guide rails are painted to match the windows, and the curtain uses PA (foam), PE (extruded) or PT (plastic) profiles, with an optional mosquito net. The earlier the shutter enters the design, the cleaner the result.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about SP concealed roller shutters

What makes concealed roller shutters good?

The SP / SP-E box hides under plaster or cladding: all you see on the facade are the guide rails matched to the windows and the curtain when it is lowered. The architecture of the house stays clean.

Are they suitable for a passive house?

Yes: boxes up to 165 mm high are certified by the Passive House Institute for windows with Uw ≤ 0.80 and Ug ≤ 0.70 — a rare thing among roller shutters.

What is a passive house and what does the PHI certificate confirm?

A passive house is a building that needs almost no heating: heat demand stays below 15 kWh per m² a year thanks to an airtight, well-insulated envelope without thermal bridges. The standard is maintained by the Passive House Institute (Darmstadt), which certifies every element of the envelope separately. The Aluprof SP / SP-E 165 system holds PHI certificate No. 0664rs03 for the cool-temperate climate zone, which includes Latvia: efficiency class phB, Uw 0.80 W/(m²K), installed window with box Uw 0.85 W/(m²K), thermal bridges at the installation joints Ψ ≤ 0.025 W/(m·K). Certified on 20 June 2014, valid until 31 December 2026. Open the certificate (PDF) · entry in the PHI database.

Can they be fitted to an existing house?

As standard they are designed into a new build; on an existing house the lintel above the window has to be rebuilt. We assess whether this is feasible during the professional measuring visit.

Which slats and options are available?

PA (foam-filled aluminium), PE (extruded), PT (PVC); mosquito net optional; manual, motor or smart home operation; inspection covers and guide rails matched to the windows, 40+ colours.

How much does it cost and how do I order?

The price depends on the facade design and the window dimensions. Send us the drawings or the measurements — we will calculate the price and come out for professional measuring (throughout Latvia and the Baltics, we also work across Europe). Two-year guarantee.
